Rita Eloranta obtained a BA in Hispanic Linguistics and Literature from the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú in Lima. She then studied at the University of Helsinki in Finland where she obtained the Master’s Degree (eximia cum laude). In the current project Rita concentrates on the reconstruction of the Mochica language, considered for the time being, an extinct linguistic isolate of the northern coastal area of Peru. She seeks to define the genetic position of Mochica language and establish its possible early relations with North America. Beyond the specific research interests concerning this project, Rita is also interested in Amerindian Linguistics, Missionary Linguistics, Contact Linguistics, Cognitive Linguistics and Typology.
